New York Pizza

Pizza came to the US with Italian immigrants through New York. Typically these 18” disks are made from elastic dough with a bready rim, thin centre, dark bottom, stringy cheese, with an orange drop of grease dripping from the delta. Typically, New York pizza and easy to fold so it can be eaten while walking, and is usually sold by the slice.


Preparation and Cooking Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

  • Shop-bought pizza dough – or follow our own recipe for delicious pizza dough
  • Pre-made pizza sauce – or make your own with our easy pizza sauce recipe
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 500g shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Romano cheese
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • Preferred pizza toppings (pepperoni is the most popular)

Method

  1. Combine the teaspoon of sugar into the pizza dough, then shape into a pizza crust shape.
  2. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough.
  3. Sprinkle with oregano, mozzarella cheese, Romano cheese and basil.
  4. Add any extra toppings to your preference.
  5. Place in your Wood Fired Pizza Oven and cook until the cheese is bubbly, and the crust is brown.
